Three events dedicated to roots

Three events will be organized: on August 9 and 16, 2024 ROOT LABORATORIES: “A HAND TO HAND“; on August 16, 2024 FEAST OF THE EMIGRANT; from August 18 to 26, 2024 ARTISTIC RESIDENCIES.

The promotion of the territory through musical events and tasting of typical products on the occasion of the patronal feast will be carried out according to shared standards with the neighboring municipality of Tufara (only 7 km away) where similar activities will take place on the occasion of the patron saint, St. John of Tufara, on August 28. In particular, with the municipality of Tufara will be carried out jointly the workshop “a mano a mano” having as its object the preparation of the typical homemade pasta, the ciufell, a pasta that we also find in the peasant tradition of the neighboring municipality of Tufare where it takes the different name of cavatell.

As for the latter, including through specific objective projects, to cross-reference and satisfy the increasingly numerous requests from descendants of Italian citizens who emigrated mainly to the North and South Americas in the periods immediately following the two world wars, to see the permanence of their right to Italian citizenship ascertained.

Registry office workers in continuity of existing projects will devote a significant part of their working hours to the activity of research, verifications and investigations about descent and the permanence of requirements for the recognition of Italian citizenship.

THE ROOT LABORATORY: “A MANOAMANO” aims to revive the customs of the ancient peasant civilization, rediscovering artisan manual skills in the preparation of homemade pasta, the so-called “ciufell,” a traditional folk dish, as well as canned foods (peeled tomatoes, tomato sauce).

The FEAST OF THE EMIGRANT has been held for more than 30 years and was created with the aim of welcoming the many emigrants who return to the village on the occasion of the August national holiday in honor of the patron saint St. Bartholomew the Apostle (Aug. 24) and the Co-Patron Saint Our Lady of Victory (last week of July and Aug. 15). The event features the tasting of typical products and in particular the typical homemade pasta “i ciufell” and will be accompanied by dancing, music and folk songs.

ARTISTIC RESIDENCIES is a project that aims to make music an instrument of knowledge of the territory and its cultural heritage through an interaction between musicians from different nationalities and the local community with a view to discovering places and contexts where it is possible to enjoy the simplicity and authenticity of social and human relationships. During the stay, the musicians will conduct concert rehearsals with performances at the Capua Castle in Gambatesa. This is an experimental project also promoted for the positive effects it has for the local economy (bringing income from now uninhabited houses, promotion of catering).
