Day of the Emigrant in Castelpetroso
“Emigrant Day,” dedicated to Italian communities abroad, will feature a series of engaging and unforgettable initiatives in Castelpetroso.
The event will begin with a greeting from the mayor and the Castelpetroso band. Then there will be the planting of a plaque together with the compatriots present, transforming this place into a point of interest for all those who will visit the country of origin in the future.
New Emigration Conference: a meeting dedicated to exploring the modern dynamics ofemigration. Stories and testimonies of descendants of citizens of our municipality who have gained international fame will be presented.
Presentation of the volumes“Castiell, ri tiemp d’ na’ vota” (Castelpetroso, the times of yore) produced by the Proloco Castelpetroso, a dialect work that will take us back in time, making us rediscover the cultural roots and traditions of our territory, and“History, faith and art in Castelpetroso” by Felicia Pinelli: fruit of passionate research that accompanies the reader in discovering the artistic beauties present in Castelpetroso, not only within the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows, but also in the small hamlets of Indiprete, Pastena and Guasto.
Access to archives for genealogical research: registry records and records of local church authorities will be made available for anyone wishing to know their family origins.
Holy Mass in honor of the emigrants: the religious celebration will be accompanied by the polyphonic choir “Castelpetroso in…Canto” and will be held in a small rural chapel, chosen for its evocative atmosphere surrounded by nature. The interior, characterized by austere poor art, is embellished with a valuable painting by Molise painter Raffaele Gioia, dating back to the 1700s. The avenue leading to the chapel is adorned with working tools of peasant art, while the lawn adjacent to the chapel pays tribute to local emigrants.
Experiential tours will be organized at the area’s production activities dedicated to the production of typical products, such as milk processing and transformation, beekeeping and honey production, with the involvement of figurants in traditional costume.
Guided tour of the Museum of Peasant Civilization and the Blacksmith-Workshop: an immersion in the history and craft traditions of our municipality.
“Emigrant Day” will conclude in the extraordinary setting of the village of Castelpetroso, where the Evening at the Borgo will be organized, an event in which most of the typical local dishes will be re-enacted. The evening will be enlivened by the Molise Folk group with music and dances from the local culture, using typical local musical instruments.
