A celebration aimed at welcoming returning migrants
The Emigrant Festival will be held on August 26, 2024. It is aimed at welcoming returning migrants.
The event is characterized by the tasting of typical products and will be enlivened by dancing, music and folk songs.
On this occasion it will be possible to witness the ritual of theAncient Mask of “The Devil” of Tufara famous not only locally but also outside the regional borders, handed down over the centuries, a typical expression of the community, attracts devotees from all over the world. Being a zoomorphic mask, the Devil, dressed in seven goat skins, is representative of the pagan god on earth.
The eye-catching movements arouse fear and superstition. Everyone would like to avoid it, but everyone deep down hopes to be surrounded by its screaming retinue.
With the advent of Christianity, the pagan rite was “downgraded” to a mere carnival mask. On Aug. 26, there will be a tasting of cotechino and cavatelli.
