The life of St. Anthony Abbot in a play felt even by those living abroad

The event consists of the re-enactment of the life of St. Anthony Abbot punctuated by the temptations of the devil, with theatrical skits and impromptu songs, around the various bonfires that residents light in honor of the patron saint of animals, in the different neighborhoods of the country. This is a very identifying festival, linked to the agro-pastoral world, particularly felt in Palata because of its tradition related tocattle breeding, of which a large presence is remembered. During the event, typical products of the local food and wine culture are tasted.

Palata is located on a lonely hillside, with land sloping gently toward the plain and the sea, rich in crops and forests. Particular is its history, which deserves to be known, as well as things to do, see and eat in the village.
The buildings in the historic center, characterized by low houses leaning against each other, are in a good state of preservation. Among the places to visit is the church of Santa Giusta, located a few kilometers from the center, along the ancient “Regio Tratturo.” Inside is preserved the statue of the very ancient saint, a pilgrimage destination. Near that church stood, in Norman times, a village that was, however, abandoned in the 16th century following raids by the Turks.

In the village, however, the church of Santa Maria La Nova, built in 1531 by Croats who lived there, which features architecture not typical of the area, and the church of San Rocco are worth a visit .
