Barefoot, covered face and funeral chants: the hooded men of Isernia
Good Friday, a day of sorrow and passion that, in some events, translates into a meaningful and highly evocative procession. This is the case of the Incappucciati of Isernia.
People with covered faces parading through the city streets barefoot and with a crown of thorns on their heads. It is an evocative and special atmosphere, made even more intense by the funeral chants that interrupt the slow walk and the darkness. The procession of the Incappucciati, in fact, starting from the Church of Santa Chiara in the late afternoon, continues for several hours making its return late at night.
The organization is by the various Confraternities that take part in the procession. These are the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament (the main organizer of the tradition), St. Peter Celestine, St. Mary of Suffrage, St. Anthony and St. Dominic.
Participating believers carry statues of the Dead Christ and Mater Dolorosa, as well as busts of Ecce Homo and Calvary Crosses and Stations of the Cross.
A truly evocative rite capable of attracting the faithful and others.
