Giant floats to celebrate carnival
Carnival, one of the merriest and most fun times of the whole year. So many events are organized in different municipalities throughout Italy. One of the events has included the Larino Carnival for the past 50 years, with giant floats parading through the streets of the town for several days.
The origin of the Larinese carnival is to be found in ancient traditions, especially that of dressing up as pacchianella going around houses looking for gifts. The first event was in 1955. In that and subsequent years, the floats were made from salvaged materials, cloth and rented costumes. The first official edition, however, was in 1975 when four boys devoted themselves to building real floats for the first time. Thus, the committee was born.
Since then Larino has never stopped, making its carnival bigger and bigger, which, to this day, attracts thousands of tourists curious to see these giants parade through the streets and enjoy a few hours of fun and relaxation. The themes for the creation of the floats are the most varied. They range from political to social, from current events to more varied themes.
The Carnival of Larino, which has become one of the main events of the Molise year, due to its grandeur and characteristics has for some years been recognized among the“historic carnivals of Italy,” a restricted club in which there are only 27. All the more reason not to miss it!
The dates for the2025 edition will be March 1, 2, 8, 9 and 15.
