From Christmas tradition to Molise’s largest artistic nativity scene

Christmas, a time of lights, parties, feelings, gifts, friendship and…nativity scenes. An ancient tradition that over the years has always been renewed but keeps true to its original meaning, recreating the setting of Jesus’ birth. In Bagnoli del Trigno, however, they have done much more.

For the past few years, in fact, the boys of theBagnolesi Volunteer Group Association has been creating a magnificent artistic nativity scene. But not only that, it is also the largest in the entire region.

In the ground-floor rooms of an old noble palace, a nativity scene complete in every detail, from inns to houses, from shepherds to iron workers, from animals to caves, and all the way to the actual Nativity itself, has been created and is perpetually on display and open to visitors. A 350-square-meter display that will immerse you in a realization that is nothing short of incredible.

That is not all, however. There is also apeasant art exhibit in the halls, with baby goats welcoming you in the first room and chickens in another, stories, photos, letters and curiosities from the past, artifacts from the wars and various period objects. All to bring the experience of a bygone era to life. Lastly, on the upper floor is an exhibition of cribs made by private individuals over the years also to participate in the competition organized by the Association itself.

A journey back in time also and especially thanks to the Christmas holidays and the nativity tradition.
