The phenomenon of brigandage told through an innovative way
There was a time, especially around the time of the unification of Italy, when numerous towns in southern Italy had to deal with bands of brigands that disrupted the lives of the inhabitants and those who happened to pass through those areas. Roccamandolfi, a municipality in the province of Isernia, is considered“The Home of the Brigands” being able to narrate numerous events. For this reason, for the past few years, the Museum of Brigandage, a virtual and multimedia museum where one can relive stories from the past but with a modern twist, has sprung up.
Located at the entrance to the village, the museum has several rooms including a library full of documents not only related to the phenomenon of brigandage.
A highlight is the multimedia room where films made with a special 3D technique are shown. These retrace some stages of brigandage in the village by telling stories that really happened.
A complete immersion in the discovery of a phenomenon about which so much has been spoken but always in a very general way being able to know names and give faces to the most illustrious characters. Above all Sabatino Maligno, described as a shepherd in his thirties, with Herculean forms, and of a peaceful disposition first who became perfidious later. He made the people believe that he enjoyed the protection of the devil. Evil was deaf to prayer and desired nothing but vengeance. Those who, until 1843, visiting Roccamandolfi had looked at the bell tower would have seen two cages with two skulls inside: they were those of Maligno and Cazzonero, another brigand.
