Medieval re-enactment in the streets of Fornelli

In Molise’s hot summer full of events, traditions and re-enactments, the Giornate al Borgo (Days in the Village) fits in just a few hours before the mid-August holiday.
This event, which takes place Aug. 13 and 14 in the enchanting Fornelli, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, allows a step back in time to medieval times.

The event, created in the late 1990s, for two days plunges the ancient village into the medieval atmosphere, full of magic, jousts, typical products and craft stores. There is no shortage of iconic elements of the era such as the historical parade, the palio with horses and riders, and the games that were played at the time.

Unfolding of the Days in the Village

The event, as mentioned, takes place over two days. During the premiere, on August 13, there is a historical procession with figures in period dress. The evening is enhanced by performances, music and workshops to visit present in the historic center. At the conclusion of the day the re-enactment of theassault on the walls.

The following day, August 14, horses and riders participating in the Palio also join the procession. From the afternoon, in fact, divided into the different districts of the village, they compete in a joust in which they have to center a metal ring with a spear. Performances, store openings, music and good food continue in the evening.

Concluding the day and the entire event is the burning of the castle, which, already fascinating and imposing in itself, catches fire and inflames the eyes and spirits of the participants.
