In the year of roots events for with the festival of return

The Community of Jelsi, on the occasion of theYear of Roots, has taken action so that Jelsians living in the world can feel close and united to their country of origin. Therefore, it has put in place a series of initiatives that can satisfy a number of requests that every citizen far from the country space wants to fulfill.

The initiatives made available are:

1 – a dedicated space that can provide tourist reception by municipal and volunteer staff.

2 – services that will cover “root tourism”: availability of fast Internet networks – fiber mixed radio (fwa) download up to 100 mega, upload up to 50 mega, fiber optic FTTH up to 2.5 Giga.

3 – possibility of strategic or real estate investment in the area by ‘root travelers’

4 – access to registry office records by ensuring availability of access at least once a week for a time slot of at least two hours.

5 – opportunity to participate in wheat harvesting between late June and early July in addition to the opportunity to attend wheat and straw processing workshops in July.

It will be an occasion in which to show all the Italian-ness in a country treasure chest made of industriousness, ingenuity, beauty and knowing how to be together, bringing to life those cultural interweavings that the Community itself has always been committed to creating.

The highlight, which is flanked by the 219th Wheat Festival and St. Anne’s Day on July 26, the compendium of all events related to welcoming villagers-returning tourists, will be two meetings:

  • July 27: Planting of an oak tree by Sergio Guidi, president of the Patriarchs of Nature Italy association and leading expert on biodiversity and the enhancement of monumental trees. The plant, born from an acorn of the centuries-old oak tree of Macchione (Jelsi district) bred and donated by the scholar, will represent the renewal of the common roots of a humanity that is scattered in every corner of the Earth and has its origins in Jelsi.
  • July 28: The day dedicated for several decades to the people of Jelsia in the world will begin with a gathering of vintage FIAT 500 cars, the glory of the Italian automobile industry, and will move on to a tour of the scenic and cultural beauties of the town: 1) visit Grain Museum, which contains most of the floats that parade during the July 26 parade; 2) visit to the centuries-old oak tree of Macchione, one of the oldest in Italy; 3) guided tour of the 14th-century frescoes of the Giotto school in the Chapel of the SS. Annunziata, in which one of the very few depictions of the nude Christ in adulthood can be seen.

The day will continue with lunch, where traditional local food and wine products will be served, with a festival in the evening bringing together Molisian artists who will perform, with regional voices, music and rhythms, all gathered in a context that relies on a single slogan“Of wheat, of earth and of bread…Let’s meet again in JELSI.”
