Love for Molise’s roots on stage in Guardialfiera
Together with 7 municipalities in Lower Molise, Guardialfiera, hosts the Festival of Molise Roots sharing a calendar full of events and in particular a festival dedicated to emigrants abroad that will take place Aug. 10 and 11.
Guardialfiera presents itself as a characteristic ancient village, full of narrow streets and stone houses, the legacy of the renowned mastery of local stonemasons, of which a few representatives still remain. A charming little village in the center of a wonderful landscape, ideal for immersing oneself in the serenity of nature, going into the two woods that embrace the village or enjoying the fantastic panorama of the Guardialfiera Lake.
The Aug. 10 event will begin with the welcoming of participants at largo degli emigranti, where greetings from the authorities will be held and there will be a welcome breakfast with typical products. During the course of the day there will be guided tours of the historic center, Palazzo Loreto (a photo exhibition inherent to the Feast of St. Joseph will be set up), the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and the birthplace of Francesco Jovine, a distinguished Molise man of letters. Here there will also be a short play inspired by a story by Jovine:“the death of the patriarch” having as its theme emigration andlove for one’s roots.
During the course of the evening there will be a musical event followed by fireworks, and it will be possible to taste Bucatini con sugo di baccalà, a typical Guardia traditional dish and the main course of the traditional St. Joseph’s Day lunch, which in Montreal is remembered by Guardians abroad every March 19 by repurposing the same dishes.
The day onAugust 11 will begin with the traditional St. Anthony’s fair, during the morning there will be showcooking and tasting of‘Sfrngiun‘, a typical Guardialfiera product.
In the evening there will be a theatrical performance of “E’ tutt nata cos, “ in Guardia dialect and with the theme of emigration, written by local author Iole Di Rocco and by the company ‘I scapsctrat.
