Nature, history, castle and murals for social and cultural identity
The village of Civitacampomarano, with a typical medieval layout, dominated by the mighty Angevin Castle and internationally recognized for the Murals created on the occasion of the Cvtà Street Fest, will host, together with 7 municipalities of Lower Molise, the Festival of Molise Roots by sharing two festivals symbolic of the community and an expression ofsocial and cultural identity: the Religious Festivity in honor of Our Lady of the Snow (Aug. 5-6) and the Festivity in honor of St. Donato (Aug. 7).
Aiming to strengthen the link between Italy and Italian communities abroad and to encourage and support local productive activities, the “Festival delle Radici Molisane” is to be presented, which will begin with thewelcoming of participants, in the historic center where greetings from the authorities will be held. During the event, guided tours will be organized to admire the architecture of the buildings, the Angevin Castle and the murals of the now famous Cvtà Street Fest, organized by the CivtArt Cultural Association.
The religious rite will include a procession through the streets of the town on Aug. 5, Holy Mass followed by the procession in honor of Our Lady of the Snow on Aug. 6 and the solemn procession in honor of St. Donatus on Aug. 7. The event will continue with an evening for “root tourists” at the Angevin Castle where a food and wine tasting of local products will be set up involving local stakeholders with traditional orchestral accompaniment.
The Festival of the Roots represents a unique opportunity to discover the very rich heritage of the Municipality of Civitacampomarano characterized by a naturalistic park dominated by numerous gullies, a history steeped in the ancient quarters evidence of the Samnite past, and one of the oldest Napoleonic cemeteries built after Napoleon Bonaparte issued the edict of Saint Cloud. Civitacampomarano, also known, for being the birthplace of the illustrious Vincenzo Cuoco and Gabriele Pepe represents an evocative village where one can enjoy a unique experience of beauty, welcome and reconnection with one’s roots.
