Typical dishes to unite different cultures
Montemitro, with its typically medieval village, characterized by ancient walls, narrow streets, arches and underpasses, in which Molise Croatian is spoken, due to the Slavic migration 500 years ago will host, together with 7 municipalities of Lower Molise, the Festival of Molise Roots by sharing the historic multicultural festival, related to the different roots represented, called “Multietnica” on August 12 and some initiatives related to local traditions.
“Multientnica” is an initiative that for more than 20 years has been highlighting the multiculturalism of its citizens through the presentation of dishes prepared precisely by those who live abroad and return to the country bringing the gastronomic baggage of the host country. Within the festival all invited communities will be able to showcase their own peculiarities, customs and mixes of cultures, having the opportunity to unite cultures even more.
An initiative that enriches the “Festival of Molisian Roots,” a unique opportunity to discover the very rich heritage of the Municipality of Montemitro through a gastronomic review in which dishes are prepared and offered by Montemitrian families living abroad who return to spend their summer vacation in Montemitro, who prepare the typical dish of their “new” nation.
During the evening of Aug. 12 there will be thematic musical performances and guided tours to discover the oldest part of the village and the mother church, dedicated to St. Lucy, a cult probably inherited from Slavic ancestors and today the patron saint. Inside the church there is, in fact, a display of works of art and findings that serves as a museum and is worth a visit.
The area is also very rich from a naturalistic point of view. A small chapel dedicated to Saint Lucia is nestled in a picturesque green area that is ideal for outdoor activities and outings. The Ateleta-Biferno sheep-track creates a natural path ready for trekking and events, while in the highest part of the municipal territory there are several paths culminating in the locality“Ždrila” where there is a panoramic terrace from which it is possible to see the entire Trigno Valley.
As part of the initiative, it will be possible to participate in the “roots workshop” on the premises of the Literary Linguistic Café to immerse oneself in the local culture and be able to have a unique experience of beauty, welcome and reconnection with one’s roots.
