Angevin Nights, a historical reenactment in honor of Queen Joan I of Anjou in Colletorto

An acclaimed and well-liked queen is not an everyday occurrence. One for which two days of celebration are held even less. Yet that is what happens August 11 and 12 every year in Colletorto during the Angevin Nights.

The queen in question is Joan I of Anjou, who ascended the throne at the tender age of seventeen and left numerous testimonies in the municipal area, chief among them the tower. This has towered over the old part of the town for centuries, and the people of Colletort are very attached to it.
The event, which began in the 1990s, invites participants to step back in time to the 1300s.

Angevin Nights Program

The event takes place over two days, August 11 and 12, beginning in the evening.
The first evening is spent among medieval games, raffles, crossbow tournaments, archery and tastings of local products, in a festive family atmosphere.

The second the highlight of the event. From about 10 p.m. a long procession of characters in period dress parades along the streets and roads of the town, starting from the steps in front of the Monastery of St. Alphonsus of the Liguori and ending at the foot of the Angevin tower. Interspersing the procession are the flag-wavers, whose music and perfect movements announce the passage. Almost at the finish line there is also a fun goose raffle.

Among the participants in the parade is she, Joan I of Anjou, who, once she arrives at the foot of the tower begins a speech in the absolute silence of the audience that only waits for the end to once again acclaim her queen.

It ends with a bang, literally. A fantastic burning of the castle, with fireworks illuminating the tower, the town, the Queen and the entire population.
It ends like this, with the heat of the fire warming the spirits even more, ready to prepare for another year of reenactment and admiration of its Queen.
